Computer Technology Institute (C.T.I.)

The Computer Technology Institute (C.T.I.) was founded in 1985 based in Patras, as a private non profit legal entity under the supervision of the GSRT (Presidential Decree 9/1985).

Since 1992 it is supervised by the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs and has managerias, economic and scientific independence. According to its current legal status, is is directed by a Director and a 9 member Board of Directors. As an entity it operates following the rules of the private sector.

The CTI aims are:

  • To conduct basic and applied research in software and hardware technologies, networks and the social, economic and other consequences of the Information Society
  • To design and development of products and services
  • To support education and training of any kind relevant to Information and Communication Technologies as well as Information Society
  • To create technology and transfer expertise
  • To provide consultancy, design and managerial services especially towards the Ministry of National Education and in general towards the public sector, as well as other institutions, regarding the transition of the country to the Information Society

The aim of the institute is to participate in the legislated national and European research endeavors, to be active in basic and applied research, to assimilate international expertise and know-how, to promote the continuous scientific and research progress of its human resources and to orient its research to the specific technological needs of the country.

In order to achieve its goals, CTI creates collaborations with public and private entities, universities and research centres at a national and international level. It has close ties with the academic community in the country. Its board of directors comprises representatives from 4 Greek Universities. It can also found branches in Greece and abroad, take loans and provide postgraduate and post-PhD scholarships.

Its successful course is attributed to its managers and staff led by the CTI directors, that have set the foundations for the development of a modern research institute in the Greek periphery.

The CTI Information System, Network and Application Security Sector has a substantial technological and research activity in the sector of Security and Cryptography of both Network and Computer Systems, as well as of Privace and regarding real cases in public sector organizations (Primeminister's office, Ministry of Education, Greek Par-liament, etc).
