The second axis of Industrial Control comprises technologies applicable in the industry and a series of other applications that range in many different sectors such as traffic network control, enterprise processes and supply chains, and process re-engineering. Technologies of interest could be distributed, integrated and embedded control, autonomous systems, hybrid / discrete event systems / networks, collaborative control, and also robotics, human-system symbiosis systems or pro-active evolvable control leading to improved system in uncertain environments..
The third axis of Embedded Systems is relevant to products that cover a large number of sectors including industrial devices and systems, large scale communication devices, home devices and systems, personal entertainment devices, devices applicable in the automotive industry, in medical systems and in general smart systems with an advanced level of innovation and attractive characteristic. Technological challenges in the are are composability, standardization, temporal predictability, dependability, fault-tolerance, dynamic environments, diagnosis and maintenance of embedded systems.
The fourth axis of Information System and Network Security has wide applicability due to the ubiquity of communications
in information systems and the wide increase of transactions through networks
and devices, making se-cure operation a matter of increased importance to the
society. The increasing number of network security violations has caused
significant economic loss, has undermined user trust and caused damage to
electronic commerce development. Security seams to have reached a critical point
so that it is regarded a prerequisite for the further development of electronic commercial transactions and the overall economic operation in general.
